It wasn’t exactly a reunion, but the connection between these two women ran deeper than they initially realized.
Megan Lewis and Dr. Suzanne Koziol Pugh had a professional relationship, with Dr. Pugh serving as Megan’s OB/GYN during her pregnancies. However, a surprise twist revealed that their bond originated many years earlier. In second grade at Fern Hill Elementary School in Pennsylvania, Megan had a pen pal who was nine grades ahead of her. The two young girls exchanged letters filled with their favorite foods, hobbies, and dreams for the future.
Fast forward thirty years to last Thanksgiving, when Megan’s mother returned a box of cherished mementos from her childhood, complete with the nostalgic letters. Curious, Megan decided to search for Suzanne Koziol online and was astonished to find a professional profile of Dr. Suzanne Koziol Pugh, featuring a photo that confirmed her suspicions.
“My mouth dropped. I could not believe that my pen pal was Dr. Pugh, who was my OB/GYN and delivered my kids: Caroline and Jack,” Megan shared with an ABC News affiliate.
Excited by the discovery, Megan quickly texted Dr. Pugh. “I had no recollection of this,” Dr. Pugh replied. “Her mom had given her a box of papers/mementos from elementary school, and in the box were the letters from me. She sent me pictures of the letters and it was me! It’s such a crazy small world.”
The letters had been exchanged between 1994 and 1995 when Dr. Pugh was a junior at West Chester East High School. During her first pregnancy with her daughter Caroline, Megan and Suzanne developed a close relationship, especially since it was a challenging nine months. Megan ensured that Dr. Pugh would be present for her delivery, a promise she also made for the birth of her son, Jack.
“It really made us feel like I was meant to take care of her and we were meant to play a role in each other’s lives,” Dr. Pugh reflected on their remarkable connection.
