Earlier in February, the Bangkok police received a report regarding a home burglary that resulted in the loss of several valuable Buddhist artifacts, including two 12-inch Buddha statues. The total value of these items was estimated at around $81,000, or 2 million Thai baht. The suspect had reportedly attempted to break into the residence multiple times before finally succeeding. Although the police had limited leads, they had enough evidence to identify the man.
After weeks of surveillance around the neighborhood and the targeted house, the officers devised a clever plan that coincided with the Lunar New Year festivities. They donned traditional lion dancer costumes and joined the joyous celebrations at a local Buddhist temple.
