Mountain Rescue Script Flipped as Hiker Saves Lost Dog Instead of a Dog Saving Hiker

In an inspiring twist of fate, a group of mountaineers stepped into the role of heroes as they rescued a lost dog who had spent a chilly night in a hollow beneath a mountaintop.

Recently, five dogs and four hikers were making their way to the summit of Fionn Bheinn in the breathtaking Scottish Highlands near Achnasheen when an unexpected incident occurred. The dogs unexpectedly fell through a “cornice,” which refers to a significant accumulation of snow at the edge of a cliff or overhanging ledge.

While the hikers successfully rescued four of the dogs in distress, one spirited spaniel named Aggie, aged 5, was still missing after she tumbled into a hollow below the summit.

The following morning, the Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team gathered alongside Aggie’s owner and a local deer stalker to commence the search for her. Their efforts quickly paid off when they reached the area where she had fallen through the cornice. A skilled rescuer was lowered with a rope into the hollow, and there was Aggie, none the worse for wear after her frosty adventure at 3,000 feet, wagging her tail with joy at the sight of her rescuer.

Team leader Iain Nesbitt emphasized the importance of being aware of the dangers posed by cornices, noting that “the ledges of snow form in strong winds and overhang the edges of steep slopes and can be difficult to spot.”

This heartwarming rescue serves as a reminder of the bravery and dedication of those who risk their safety for the well-being of our beloved furry friends.
