Minnesota Tow Truck Driver Returns Abandoned Vehicles to Families After ICE Arrests

Just a few months ago, Juan Leon embarked on an exciting journey as the new owner of a tow truck service in Minnesota. Shortly after starting his business, he began receiving calls about abandoned vehicles and noticed a troubling trend: the owners of these vehicles were simply missing.

In many instances, Leon discovered that the owners had been apprehended by ICE during its Operation Metro Storm. Regardless of differing opinions on the agency’s mission, the impact was clear—many families were left without their vehicles. Recognizing an opportunity to make a positive change in his community, Leon decided to take action.

For the past four months, Leon has been dedicated to returning vehicles to the families of those affected, often at no cost. His company, Leo’s Towing, operates with compassion, responding not only to requests from family members but also proactively locating vehicles left behind after arrests.

“I saw a need to help clear the streets and return these vehicles to their rightful owners,” Leon shared. He often collaborates with “observers” to ensure he can safely retrieve and return cars to families or friends of the individuals who were detained.

“Families reach out to us for assistance,” he explained. “If we don’t hear from them, we find a way to access the vehicle and bring it back to their home, ensuring it’s stored safely.”

While towing can be an expensive endeavor due to the high insurance costs associated with operating hydraulic vehicles, Leon has been able to manage these expenses thanks to generous private donations from across the nation. This support has allowed him to focus on helping others, quickly filling his schedule with compassionate work.

To date, Leon estimates he has successfully returned around 250 vehicles to their owners or safely stored them to prevent damage. The moments when he reunites families with their cars are often emotional and deeply moving, yet this only fuels his determination to continue his mission.

Leon’s inspiring efforts highlight the power of community support and kindness in challenging times. By stepping up to help those affected by ICE actions in Minnesota, he is making a meaningful difference in many lives.
