This enchanting encounter was recorded by Craig, who travels across Scotland in a motorhome, sharing his adventures as the Roaming Thistle on social media platforms.
Just over a week ago, on a Saturday, Craig was exploring the stunning Glencoe region with his camera when he spotted a majestic male red deer, a true emblem of Scotland’s wild beauty. He took a moment to move in slowly to capture the special moment on video.
“I was simply hoping for a peaceful experience observing wildlife,” Craig shared. He purchased his motorhome to explore the beauty of Scotland and create lasting memories with his family.
To his surprise, the stag approached him calmly, showing no signs of fear, and gently brushed against the camera lens. “As he breathed on it, the lens fogged up for a brief moment, which added to the magic of the experience before he quietly wandered away,” Craig recalled.
After this incredible interaction, Craig felt a wonderful mix of disbelief and gratitude. “Encounters like this are truly rare, and it was an extraordinary privilege to witness such serene and natural behavior from a wild animal,” he expressed.

Known as the Highland stag, the male red deer (Cervus elaphus scoticus) holds the title of Britain’s largest land mammal, celebrated for their impressive antlers that can measure over 45 inches (more than a meter) in width.
“This moment will remain etched in my memory, not due to its drama, but because it was a quiet, intimate experience that unfolded entirely on the stag’s terms,” Craig reflected. “It’s a beautiful reminder that the magnificent creatures of the Highlands are just as curious as they are majestic!”
