Fun ‘Fashion Shoot’ Makes Residents in a Senior Home Feel 20 Years Younger

Residents at a senior home experienced a delightful transformation, feeling like they were 20 years younger after participating in a fun-filled fashion photoshoot featuring stylish wigs and vibrant outfits.

At Maplewood Court, located just an hour from London, the facility’s dedicated ‘Lifestyle Team’ organized this exciting event, inspired by a trendy video they discovered on social media. The residents were treated to a dazzling selection of flower-adorned wigs, trendy sunglasses, hats, and oversized pearls, creating an atmosphere of joy and excitement among the 72 participants.

This engaging afternoon was the creative idea of staff members Laura Taylor and Jo Morgan, who managed to keep the surprise under wraps until the last moment. “There was such a buzz in the home,” they shared, highlighting the anticipation surrounding the event.

Ms. Taylor expressed their enthusiasm, stating, “We loved the idea of giving our residents the chance not just to dress up but to go over the top and feel fabulous.”

One of the stars of the day, 100-year-old Hilda Howes, joyfully remarked, “I loved it; they made me look 80 instead of 100! It was so much fun to dress up in all the bright clothes.”

The wigs were sourced online, while other staff members generously contributed accessories like jewelry, scarves, and sunglasses to enhance the looks. Deb Eve, a care assistant, took charge of the ladies’ makeup, while Jo Morgan captured the magical moments with her daughter’s help.

“We were thrilled that everyone was so keen to get dressed up,” Morgan noted, adding, “The whole thing lifted everyone’s mood; it was wonderful to see.”

To keep the memories alive, the team plans to print the stunning photos for residents to display in their rooms, and they are also working on a photo exhibition for the lobby, ensuring that the joy continues to spread throughout the community.

92-year-old resident Violet Syers expressed her excitement, stating, “I’ll be able to look at it every day and see how fabulous I looked.”

This heartwarming initiative is a wonderful reminder of the joy that creativity and community spirit can bring. Let’s share this uplifting idea on social media, inspiring more senior homes to create similar experiences for their residents!
