Last weekend, a farming family in Kentucky joyfully welcomed a new calf into their lives amidst freezing single-digit temperatures, but soon realized she might not survive the night without some extra care.
Macey Sorrell, embodying the spirit of both a loving mother and a dedicated farmer, made the heartwarming decision to bring the calf inside their home for warmth and safety. As she settled down on the couch with her two children, Sorrell captured an adorable moment that has since melted hearts across the internet.
On that chilly Saturday in January, Macey and her husband Tanner went to check on their pregnant cow just as dusk was falling over their Mount Sterling property. To their surprise, they found that she had already given birth.
“She was just frozen. Her umbilical cord looked like a popsicle,” Macey recalled. With memories of losing a calf to frostbite last year still fresh, the couple decided to take action to ensure the new arrival’s safety.

“When we brought her in, she had ice on her. The afterbirth was still on her, and I had to wipe all that off,” Macey shared. Armed with a blow dryer, she carefully warmed the little calf and got her all fluffed up.
To everyone’s delight, their 3-year-old son Gregory naturally gravitated toward the calf, snuggling up with her on the couch as if it was the most ordinary thing in the world.
“We’re used to bringing the occasional farm animal inside, so it’s clearly a part of our kids’ lives,” Macey said with a smile. Gregory even named the calf Sally, and after a cozy night indoors, Sally was ready to rejoin her mother in the paddock at sunrise, healthy and eager to explore her surroundings.
