Community Dads Raise Thousands to Surprise Beloved School Crossing Guard with a New Car

A heartwarming story has emerged from North Texas, where a group of dedicated dads has come together to raise funds for a new car for a cherished school crossing guard, leaving both her and the community in delightful surprise.

Ask anyone connected to Moss Haven Elementary School about Ms. Trecia Crawford, and you’re bound to hear praises for her kindness and unwavering care for every child she serves. A true pillar of the community, Ms. Crawford knows many parents by name, often more than some school staff members. However, for the past six months, she has been without a vehicle after her car broke down and she faced challenges in finding the funds to fix or replace it.

“I was using Lyft to get here, and when my funds ran out, I had to rely on the bus,” Crawford shared with local CBS affiliate KTVT. “But I did what I had to do.”

Upon discovering her situation, the Moss Haven Dad’s Club decided to step in, pooling their resources and expertise to help get Ms. Crawford back on the road. Marcus Waither, a member of the Dad’s Club and organizer of the “Carpool Dads” volunteers, took the initiative to raise funds for a new car for her.

In just a few days, the club successfully raised an astonishing $6,800. Waither then enlisted the help of Adam Tharpe, a local dad and general manager at Highland Lake Automotive. Tharpe found a white Jeep that was both affordable and in good condition. He made sure to address a few minor issues and even included some complimentary oil change coupons.

Once the car was secured, the next step was to ensure that Ms. Crawford had liability insurance, which was handled by Jeremy Graves, another supportive dad from the club.

With everything in place, the dads prepared to surprise Ms. Crawford during her morning duty in early March. As seen in a Facebook post from the school district, her reaction was priceless—she stood in shock, covering her mouth in disbelief at the wonderful news.

“Community isn’t just a buzzword,” reads a blog post from the Richardson Independent School District, home to Moss Haven. “It’s the action, time, and commitment of parents, teachers, staff, and all those who contribute in both small and big ways.”

This uplifting tale of community spirit and generosity serves as a reminder of the incredible impact that kindness can have on individuals and neighborhoods alike.
