Remembering Staff Sgt. Ryan Knauss: Four Years Since Abbey Gate Tragedy and U.S. Afghanistan Withdrawal
Today marks a somber milestone: four years since the United States officially completed its withdrawal from Afghanistan, an operation marked by hope, urgency, and profound loss. Among those who paid the ultimate price was Staff Sgt. Ryan Christian Knauss, one of 13 U.S. service members killed in the harrowing bombing at Abbey Gate during the chaotic final days of the evacuation. Staff Sgt. Knauss’s mother remembers him as a hero with unyielding strength and courage. “He was very strong and brave,” she said in a poignant tribute, honoring his sacrifice that echoes deeply amid the memories of that tragic event.
